How Often Should You Get Reiki? Why Consistency Matters?
Updated: 4 days ago

After a client walks off the studio’s Reiki table feeling lighter and more relaxed than when they entered the studio, a typical question that is posed is, “How often do you recommend receiving Reiki?” Typically, I recommend carving out the time at least once a month for a Reiki session. However, this is a personal question and depends on a variety of factors.
Take a deep breath before considering the following:
How demanding is your life schedule currently?
What is the level of importance of a work // life balance to you?
Are you currently dealing with a deeply emotional or energetically draining situation?
Do you currently have a mindfulness practice(s) built into your regular routine?
Do you feel you are more sensitive to other people’s energies or embody other empathic qualities and characteristics?
Are you currently recovering from an intense medical situation and/or condition?
How committed are you to the idea of improving your quality of life utilizing historically trusted and impactful wellness and energetic healing techniques?
No matter who you are or what is currently going on in your life, energy is constantly moving and shifting. An anecdote to help elaborate on this concept is if you clean your house spotless today, at some point you’ll inevitably have to clean it again. This is the nature of life. On a personal energetic level, your mind, body, and spirit operate in the same manner. We require maintenance. Let’s consider some examples of real life applications of this energetic principle.
Perhaps, this month you’ve been promoted at work, but are feeling uncertain about how you’ll perform and meet the higher expectations that come along with the new role. This is an example of personal growth which is a wonderful thing but sometimes can feel a little uncomfortable and anxiety producing. With a situation like this, an experienced Reiki practitioner will help soothe your nerves so you can show up in your new role confidently with calmer and clearer thinking that will be perceived consciously or unconsciously by your new team.
Then next month, you might have had an emotionally charged and/or upsetting discussion with a friend or partner who feels left behind because you are now spending more time at the office and less quality time with them. With a situation like this, an experienced Reiki practitioner will assist in grounding any lingering tumultuous energies from the conversation, so you can address the situation with your friend or partner from a vantage point that resonates with how you truly want to handle the situation. From a long term perspective, this leads to fewer feelings of regret because you took the time to contemplate and respond from an energetically centered and aligned state of being.
Then the following month, you may be distracted on your phone while walking at the city park or in the grocery store. Suddenly you lose your balance and as you trip, you hurt your wrist. With a situation like this, an experienced Reiki practitioner will help relax the activity in your mind regarding any negative stories you might be telling yourself about the situation. They’ll also help relax your body so its natural capacity for healing can be heightened. For example, when you have a small scrap on your arm, your skin can repair itself. (I should note that Reiki is not a replacement for modern healthcare, because with Reiki the outcome is not controlled. Reiki supports your body to support itself physically but what it does with that support is not up to the client or practitioner.)
As I mentioned previously, I generally recommend once a month but more frequently is possible depending on the situation. If you are new to Reiki, your first experiences will simply be seeing what is possible. I remember some of my first Reiki sessions (circa 2018), where I realized how much anxiety I was carrying around with me that I wasn’t even fully cognizant of. The soothing effects of my Reiki teacher’s sessions had me so relaxed that I discovered a new level of peace that I could cultivate for myself. In this way, it operates as a catalyst for personal growth and development that can ripple out into various sectors of your life. You may find you have a similar experience or you might discover it helps you in a different way based on your unique life path.
For individuals who are more well versed in Eastern medicine, mindfulness techniques, and/or wellness practices as preventative healthcare, you may find you need the self care support of a Reiki session less frequently. In which case, I would recommend coming in on an as needed basis. However, if you happen to be a caregiver of any form I still would recommend scheduling monthly.
If you are a caregiver professionally or for a loved one, it is very important that you have self care built into your routine to prevent burnout. When you spend a large portion of your day considering the needs of another individual or other individuals, it is very easy and common to disregard or entirely forget your own needs. Having a set routine ensures that self care is provided and enjoyed, so you can continue to show up for the person or persons you kindly choose to be there for. Additionally, with a set routine it removes some of the decision making process on whether or not to engage in self care, so you are less likely to talk yourself out of the care that sustains you to keep giving.
With consistent and routine nervous system resets, which you can experience with a Reiki session, over time the chemical structures in your brain physically change. This is the concept of neuroplasticity. According to an Article from the National Library of Medicine (link provided below), neuroplasticity is defined as, “the process of adaptive structural and functional changes in the brain.” and is also referred to as neural plasticity or brain plasticity. The article focuses on brain injuries and how neuroplasticity makes recovery possible. However, you don’t have to have incurred an injury to use the “plasticity’ of your brain to your advantage. If you want to cultivate more supportive self-talk, a generally calmer mind, or more positive thinking patterns, practices like Reiki, Yoga, Sound Healing, and Meditation can make those shifts possible. It’s important to remember here that dedicated consistency and applied practice are a key factor in making those changes.

For clients who are desiring to make a profound, lasting impact on how they operate day to day, I recommend applying for Reiki Level 1 Training. The training offered at Sacred Practice Reiki Studio is one of a kind. Unlike most weekend group trainings, Reiki Training at Sacred Practice is only offered 1-on-1, which has the benefit of allowing you to schedule your training sessions when works best for you within the normal studio operating hours. The whole structure of the training is developed around energetic principles to offer you the most elevated experience possible. For example, there is a saying in energy work, “Where attention goes, energy flows”. Just as if you attended a group yoga class you would still get benefits from your attendance, but the potency of your time with the teacher is more deluded than a private 1-on-1 session with the same teacher.
Another key difference between Reiki Training at Sacred Practice Reiki Studio and other providers is the amount of time allotted for direct experience and application of the material and skills taught. Direct experience and application are key factors in integrating knowledge. Each Reiki Training session at Sacred Practice includes personalized guided meditation and plenty of time to practice the skills discussed so you feel confident in your absorption of the material presented. Meditation principles that are communicated during the mediations are fundamental concepts that you’ll need to grasp in order to understand how to balance energy with Reiki. This is something that is not included by many other providers. With this extra attention to detail in curriculum and overall experience at Sacred Practice, you have a higher chance of actually integrating the learned teachings during your training than other providers. And as I mentioned previously, it is dedicated consistency and applied practice in which you ultimately see end result shifts that most students come to Reiki Training seeking.
This is one of the reasons why when opening a physical space, I named it Sacred Practice Reiki Studio. I first heard the word Reiki when I was in Massachusetts for my 200Hr Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu. It wasn’t until later that year, after I had returned home to St. Louis, that I experienced Reiki for the first time. I was amazed by the powerful somatic presence of the practice and its level of simplicity. I had to learn more! Over time, I noticed progressive shifts in my ability to balance my mood and handle recurring periods of depression. Previously, I required prescription medication to manage my symptoms, but now I no longer depend or require the medication. (Another note here, that Reiki is not a replacement for modern healthcare and you should consult a professional and competent doctor regarding mental healthcare if you are struggling with mental health or have questions regarding your current prescribed medication.) Working with monthly VIP clients at the studio, I have also witnessed positive impacts of Reiki healing in other individuals seeking support. Here I’ll use fake names to protect their privacy.
When Polly received Reiki for the first time at the studio, she loved how relaxed she felt and decided to sign up for the monthly VIP membership. One month she came into the studio and told me she had received some disappointing news. Polly had been diagnosed with cancer. While receiving chemo, she would arrive visibly tired. However, after a Reiki and Sound Healing session she reported having higher levels of energy to allow her to be more productive, like she used to be. Polly discussed with me how she missed doing the normal things she could do before she got diagnosed. She looked forward to her Reiki appointments at the studio because she could reclaim some of her energy back, making the situation feel a little less heavy and disappointing.
Randall started attending the Sound Bath Journeys at the studio and decided to schedule a Reiki and Sound Healing session. He realized that he got even more out of the individual appointment than the events he had and still enjoys. Randall is a high energy individual and every time he comes in for a Reiki and Sound Healing session or a Personalized Yoga session, he is visibly more grounded and intentional in his communication and movements. With the concept of neuroplasticity, that I mentioned previously in this article, if he continues to show up and apply some basic breathing techniques I’ve shared with him during our sessions together, he can train himself to generally be more grounded and intentional in his day to day life.
Before Fred moved Austin for work, he scheduled a Reiki and Sound Healing session to help manage the demanding nature of his job. As a tax accountant, he wanted additional support during the busy season. He enjoyed the restorative and nourishing aspects of his session at the studio so much that he decided to keep his monthly VIP membership active even after the busy season had wrapped up. He valued maintaining a work life balance that supported his ability to leave any craziness of the office at the office.
In conclusion, to fully appreciate and witness the depths of Reiki’s healing capacity for yourself, I recommend scheduling on a monthly basis. This is why I have created the Monthly Private Session VIP subscription membership to offer a discount to those who feel drawn to choose consistency for the greatest outcomes. With the Monthly VIP you save $16 a month on either a 1 hour Reiki and Sound Healing session or a 1 hour Personalized Yoga session. You also receive free attendance to the monthly Sound Bath Journey (an additional $25 in savings).
If you feel drawn to learn some practical mindfulness techniques and tools that you can use to extend the reach of Reiki further into your life, I recommend applying for Reiki Level 1 Training. Either way the first step is signing up for an appointment.
